Finally got the chance to meet A-Rod not once, but twice! It’s true, she is as sweet as they come.

Because I was so happy for her, I congratulated her on the goal almost as soon as she walked into the tunnel and her face lit up as she thanked me. I don’t think she was expecting that kind of enthusiasm.

Also asked her if she had chosen the cap or the Rolex watch to commemorate her 100th cap. In case you’re wondering, she says she hasn’t chosen just yet.

If I was going to have to sit next to a kid, the seven-year-old girl to my right was the best of tiny humans to be sitting next to for this match. She’d come all the way from Tampa as part of her birthday present, and even though she’s seven she plays on a team with 10-year-olds.

Despite the freezing cold, her attention never waned, she made intelligent observations and asked smart questions. Apart from that, she thought I was hilarious when I yelled out at a New Zealand defender to “APOLOGIZE!” after fouling Lauren Cheney. But perhaps most endearing was that she was screaming right along with me anytime A-Rod touched the ball or made her way down the left flank in front of us.
